Celebration of Spring: The 11th Cherry Blossom Festival 2017

As one of the featured attractions of the spring season in the city, Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation hosts the 11th Cherry Blossom Festival on Saturday, April 1st at Red Wing Park (rain date April 2nd). This festival started in 2006 to introduce Japanese authentic culture to our community and promote long-lasting friendships between the city of Virginia Beach and Miyazaki, Japanese sister city. In 2005, Japan Education Culture Center (local NPO charitable organization) donated 150 Japanese Yoshino Cherry trees, which created the beautiful promenade at Red Wing Park. Since then, the Japanese garden area has been expanded and the traditional architecture of Azumaya (authentic Japanese nature viewing gazebo) was built in the garden, and a giant boulder of peace monument was also donated in the park. This event has been getting more involvement and participation of families and friends in our communities in the last decade and SCAVB hopes to broaden the event to celebrate with all of our sister cities while promoting and enjoying the natural beauty and greater cultural awareness.

We hope you will join us!
